Candles of Hope

If you would like to honour a family member, friend, yourself or anyone else who has been lost to – or lived through – family violence, you can do so with a Candle of Hope.

By filling out this form or pressing the purple 'Dedicate a Candle of Hope' button, you can arrange to have a personalised Candle of Hope created and placed on stage during the safe steps Candlelight Vigil, an annual event remembering women and children tragically killed as a result of family violence.

The 2018 safe steps Candlelight Vigil will take at Federation Square from 5.45pm on Wednesday 2 May.

If you wish, you can submit the name you would like displayed on the Candle of Hope (first names or nicknames only, for privacy reasons).

If you haven’t been personally effected by family violence, you might like to arrange a Candle of Hope to pay tribute to all those who have lost their lives at the hands of someone who was supposed to love and care for them.

You can also choose to include a message of support for a loved one, or a general message to the thousands of women and children who are still suffering abuse. These messages will be de-identified and displayed on safe stepsFacebook and Instagram pages.

If you’re unable to attend the 2018 Candlelight Vigil, you can still dedicate a candle and it will be place on stage on your behalf.

In order to help cover costs, we ask that you make a donation of $7.50 to safe steps Family Violence Response Centre for each Candle of Hope. It is also possible to increase your donated amount with all additional funds supporting our vital work helping women and children escape, and live free from, family violence.
